Hughes isn't here to simply provide excellent services to our members. We're also here to serve the Tucson community and beyond, because we believe any business that is supported by a community must give back.
We work with a number of community nonprofits, including the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, AZ Earn to Learn, United Way Tucson and others.
Each year, Hughes Federal Credit Union is proud to participates in the Credit Unions for Kids© program in support of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals©, which raises funds and awareness for children's hospitals throughout North America. Over the years we have raised thousands of dollars for this great organization by holding raffles, selling candy bars and participating in golf tournaments, bowling tournaments or baseball tournaments.
Hughes partners with the AZ Earn to Learn program that prepares high school students for college with financial education and matching funds. Eligible students who are attending the University of Arizona can open an Individual Development Account (IDA) at Hughes Federal Credit Union. IDAs are matched savings accounts designed to help students of modest means establish a pattern of regular savings to help pay for their college education. For more information students can contact AZ Earn to Learn at (877) 260-7369 or by visiting their website.
Hughes partners with United Way Tucson and Southern Arizona with the mutual goal of promoting economic self-sufficiency and financial literacy for individuals and families in our community.
Hughes collects food for the Interfaith Community Services/Community Food Bank food drive. In 2010 members and employees collected more than 1,500 pounds of food!
Hughes awards three scholarships each year to high school seniors who are Hughes members, have shown scholastic excellence, participate in community service and are interested in advancing their education.
The credit union participates in San Miguel High School's Corporate Internship Program, which enables local students to take a full course load while holding internships, working in corporations and earning nearly 60 percent of their school tuition. The Corporate Internship Program (CIP) at San Miguel gives students the opportunity to distinguish themselves as citizens and professionals with bright futures.
