Auto Loan Frequently Asked Questions

Should I get pre-approved before buying a car?

Yes. Pre-approval helps you understand your budget and simplifies the buying process.

Will I receive a paper title from the MVD after paying off my vehicle loan?

No. As of April 1, 2020, the Arizona Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) will no longer mail paper titles. Once you pay off your vehicle loan, the credit union will release the lien within 7-10 business days. In Arizona and some other states, your title now appears in their systems electronically. Please visit the ADOT Vehicle Title and Registration page for more information. If you want a paper title, call the Arizona MVD at 602-255-0072 and request one to be mailed to you. If your unit is titled in a state other than Arizona, please contact your local motor vehicle department.

Am I required to carry full coverage insurance?

Yes, we require full coverage insurance with comprehensive and collision deductibles of $1,000 or less. 

How can I make loan payments?

Hughes offers a number of ways to make your loan payment. Visit the Make a Payment page for details.

How can I see the status of my loan or account application?

Visit our application status portal to check the status of your application, upload documents, or send us questions or comments. 

 

Does Hughes finance vehicles with a branded, impaired, or salvage title?

No, we only finance vehicles with a clean A status title.

Are there any penalty fees for paying off my loan early?

No. You are not penalized for paying off a loan early at Hughes.

What is force-placed insurance?

We require insurance verification for your loan. Please ensure your policy has full coverage, including comprehensive and collision, with Hughes FCU listed as a lienholder, and that deductibles do not exceed $1,000.00. Once we receive the verification of continuous coverage with no lapses, the full amount will be removed from your loan. You may submit your insurance information by faxing it to 1-866-736-9183 or by email to hughesfcu@imcovered.com. To check the status of your insurance or confirm it has been updated, please call 1-888-667-9103.

Do you offer an extended warranty?

Hughes does offer an extended warranty on New Loan purchases or Refinances.  If you need information on your current extended warranty, please refer back to your original contract or contact us during normal business hours.

Do you offer leases for vehicles?

No, we do not offer leases at this time.

When will the lien be released on my vehicle?

 Once you pay off your vehicle loan, the credit union will release the lien on the 7th business day. 

In Arizona and some other states, your title now appears in their systems electronically. 

How do you determine a used vehicle value?

We use Kelley Blue Book or NADA Value.
