Chip, Chip Hooray!
New EMV or “chip” cards make your transactions more secure.
Now Available! Hughes Federal Credit Union has made your Visa® Credit Card even better, with the latest chip technology called EMV (Europay, Mastercard®, Visa), designed to prevent credit card and debit card fraud.
Members will receive a Hughes EMV credit card on new and reissued cards. EMV debit cards will be available in the future. The new embedded chip deters the copying of your account information, better protecting you against fraud.
Use your new chip card anywhere Visa is accepted.
At retailers that already have chip-enabled terminals, simply insert your EMV card and follow the prompts. At retailers without chip-enabled terminals, check out as you always did. For phone or online purchases, you will continue to provide your card information like you have in the past!
Activate the new. Destroy the old.
Your new chip card replaces your current Hughes credit card when you receive it. Please activate your new chip card immediately and destroy your old one. Your PIN has not changed.
If you’ve authorized merchants to automatically charge your account, you’ll need to update the card information on record. It’s best to do that right away too!
It’s easy to make a purchase at a chip-enabled terminal:
Step 1 - Insert your new card “chip first” into the chip-enabled terminal. Leave your card in the terminal throughout your transaction.
Step 2 - Approve the transaction as you always do.
Step 3 - Remove your card after the transaction is completed.
It’s that easy.
