The Consumer Federation of America, a non-profit, pro-consumer group, encourages consumers to purchase only from credit unions. With credit life insurance, a primary member's loan can be paid off in the event of death. By purchasing this protection, insured members will remove the burden and obligation of unpaid loans from their family or survivors upon their death. With credit disability, if an insured member becomes disabled he/she is protected from losing any collateral placed against a loan.
